My hair advice for Scones / Rant on Sulfates
okay so should i worry about sulfates in shampoo? because they’re everywhere and in lush stuff and some people make em sound real bad and i do not know what to think.
You might worry if - your hair is naturally very dry. (like mine)
Sulfates dry out your hair. It’s why shampoo makes your hair feel the way that it does without conditioner. My hair is naturally very dry and needs a lot of hydration. It rarely gets greasy - so I use ORGANIX - Coconut shampoo. It’s sulfate free, and you can buy it at the store. Organix also sells a lot of other sulfate free and really really high quality hair products.
Sulfate is also shitty for the environment, I think? That’s why Jen doesn’t use it.
Another theory - if your hair isn’t dry but greases up often, some people think it’s from the over drying properties of sulfate. And I’ve heard testimonies of friends who switched to sulfate free products - and over a very short period of time, their hair was less greasy but still soft and shiny - because their scalp wasn’t forced to over produce sweat to rehydrate your scalp.
In conclusion: If you’re worried- try Organix out. I know for sure the coconut kind it sulfate free, not sure if they all are. It’s pretty high quality stuff - but it’s AWESOME. (The coconut oil and leave in conditioners are especially awesome to leave in your hair before you go swimming - because this will prevent your hair from absorbing the chlorine.
